Currently, wildlife travels the Wildwood Open Space going through the hills to Oakridge Estates at exits at Fourl Road and on to Towsley Canyon.
Our wildlife to being squeezed out of their habitat with development on every inch of open land!
OPEN SPACE
And I quote, Laurene Weste, from The City of Santa Clarita-City News,
February 2nd,2019
“The open spaces also provide crucial places for wildlife under crossing which allow wildlife to cross under the freeway, keeping them out of danger. This promotes a healthy ecosystem and allows the animals to easily migrate between habitats.
Why is this important?
The Village at Wiley Canyon will disturb this wildlife migration.
My suggestion is if Bee Canyon was recently be added to open space, it would only make sense that the Smiser property which, is a Floodplain and natural habitat be included in open space for the habitat.
On July 1st , 2022, City Manager Ken Striplin wrote in the “City News | City of Santa Clarita, CA, and I quote!
“If you ever look at a map of Santa Clarita, you will notice the blue squiggly line running through the center of Santa Clarita, with several branches trailing off. As you know, the blue indicates where the Santa Clara River flows 13-miles through our city.”
Why is this important?
There is a creek included in the Blue Line of the Santa Clara river that runs through the proposed development land, and this is where Riparian habit is located.
The proposed project sits between the Major North-South I-5 Freeway and the two lane Wiley Canyon which collects traffic from across the Santa Clarita valley.
This kind of air pollution can be very hazardous for residents in the proposed development and current residents along Wiley between Lyons and Calgrove.
