The proposed project would be located on 18 Acres of the 31 acres of this proposed property development, The Village at Wiley Canyon
Why not more of the property?
Calgrove Corridor has members in each of the following Santa Clarita neighborhoods:
Atwood Village , Hidden Valley, Kelton Estates, Mulberry Mobile Home Park, Oakridge, Rancho La Salle and The Oaks.
On October 25, 2022 Calgrove Corridor members brought “The Village at Wiley Canyon” currently under review, in the planning department to The Santa Clarita City Councils attention., however Santa Clarita Council members receiving donations from the developer Tom Clark may already know about this project .
Currently, wildlife travels the Wildwood Open Space going through the hills to Oakridge Estates at exits at Fourl Road and on to Towsley Canyon.
Our wildlife to being squeezed out of their habitat with development on every inch of open land!
OPEN SPACE
And I quote, Laurene Weste, from The City of Santa Clarita-City News,
February 2nd,2019
“The open spaces also provide crucial places for wildlife undercrossing which allow wildlife to cross under the freeway, keeping them out of danger. This promotes a healthy ecosystem and allows the animals to easily migrate between habitats.
Why is this important?
The Village at Wiley Canyon will disturb this wildlife migration.
My suggestion is if Bee Canyon was recently be added to open space, it would only make sense that the Smiser property which, is a Floodplain and natural habitat be included in open space for the habitat.
NOW, FOR THE SANTA CLARA RIVER
On July 1st , 2022, City Manager Ken Striplin wrote in the “City News | City of Santa Clarita, CA, and I quote!
“If you ever look at a map of Santa Clarita, you will notice the blue squiggly line running through the center of Santa Clarita, with several branches trailing off. As you know, the blue indicates where the Santa Clara River flows 13-miles through our city.”
Why is this important?
There is a creek included in the Blue Line of the Santa Clara river that runs through the proposed development land, and this is where Riparian habit is located.
This proposed project sits between the I-5 Freeway and a two lane road, Wiley Canyon, which will cause more air pollution for the current residents along Wiley between Lyons and Calgrove.
All this information is readily available on the internet, however we feel this may be new information to some residents.
Calgrove Corridor Core group felt we should mention these concerns now, however, many more concerns will be studied in the Draft Environmental Impact Report from Dudek environmental impact.
